Food that you should avoid when you are pregnant

When I was pregnant my first child, we are so careful about everything. When it come to second, we are not really careful in our first few months at all. Now I think I should pay more attention about what I eat. So I want to collect list of food that we our pregnant shouldn't eat.

Some food that you should avoid when you are pregnant.
  • Raw Eggs : If eggs are cooked, the risk is gone. Remember that mayonnaise and mousses may contain raw eggs.
  • Sushi: With the exception of California rolls and other cooked items.
  • Unpasteurized Juice
  • Some Varieties of Fish: These include swordfish, shark, and tilefish -- all big species that live longer, accumulating more mercury in their flesh. In fact, most types of fish contain traces of mercury, so you'll want to limit your weekly consumption of safer varieties too. According to the newest guidelines from the FDA, you can enjoy up to 12 ounces a week (roughly two meals) of lower-mercury fish such as salmon, catfish, pollack, shrimp, and canned light tuna. Of those 12 ounces, only 6 should come from canned "white" albacore tuna, which tends to contain more mercury than light tuna.
  • High Levels of Caffeine
  • Nitrate-Rich Foods: hot dogs, cured meats such as bacon and sausage. These contain nitrates, additives that have been called into question for possible links to brain tumors and diabetes.
  • Avoid raw fish and shellfish. It's especially important to avoid oysters and clams.
  • Avoid refrigerated smoked seafood, such as lox. It's OK to eat smoked seafood if it's an ingredient in a casserole or other cooked dish. Canned and shelf-stable versions also are safe.
  • Raw poultry that's been pre-stuffed. Raw juice that mixes with the stuffing can cause bacterial growth. Frozen poultry that's been pre-stuffed is safe when cooked from its frozen state.
  • Brie
  • Feta
  • Camembert
  • Blue cheese
  • mould-ripened soft cheese made with goats’ milk
  • Mexican-style cheeses, such as queso blanco, queso fresco and panela
  • Peanuts are best avoided in pregnancy, as there is now some suggestion that in susceptible women, eating peanuts while pregnant may be linked to peanut allergy in children, and also to an increased risk of asthma and eczema.
  • Liver and liver products should be avoided as they contain high levels of vitamin A, which is now thought to have harmful effects on the baby.
  • Pâté: Avoid all types of pâté, including vegetable pâtés, as they can contain listeria
  • Vitamin A
  • high-dose multivitamin supplements
  • fish liver oil supplements
  • any supplements containing vitamin A
  • avoid drinking alcohol
  • Wash fruit, vegetables and salads to remove all traces of soil, which may contain toxoplasma, a parasite that can cause toxoplasmosis.
Hope this help.
